Hockey Math....
Hockey? Math? YES! Of course! Every Tuesday at 11:00am, you'll find Mrs. T's math class in the computer lab checking out the latest hockey stats for their "dream" teams. Students keep track of goals and assists, games played, wins, overtimes and shutouts. They construct, read and interpret tables, charts and graphs that summarize data from their teams as well as apply ratios, proportions and percents. Enthusiasm and the spirit of competition are high on Tuesday mornings!
Check out your NHL team's standing in their league, and their wins (W) and over-time games (OT) How points are calculatedTeams of two students participated in a "draft" and selected 3 players, 2 goalies, and 1 NHL team to keep track of during the NHL season. Every Tuesday we collect the latest statistics for their “team” and award points according to the following system: Players
Goals (G) = 45 points per
goal
Assists (A) = 25
points per assist Games Played (GP)
= 5 points per game played Click
here to check your players' current statistics. Goalies
Shut Outs (SO) =
36 points per Shut Out Wins (W) = 24
points per win Games Played (GP) = 5 points per game played Click
here to check your goalies' current statistics. Teams
Wins (W) = 36
points per win Over Time (OT) = 10 points per Over Time Loss Click
here to check your team's wins and ties
The supplemental
draft is a chance for teams to "dump" a player, goalie, or NHL team
in trade for a "better" one. The supplemental draft occurs
every three or four weeks. The team with the lowest point total chooses
first, and the highest scoring team chooses last.
