Dear Families,
We were treated to an excellent
assembly this week, Food Play,
sponsored by Hannaford.
The nationally recognized
group taught us a lot about
healthy food and lifestyle
choices through colorful skits,
juggling, claps and fun.
Again thanks to all of you who
have made an effort to purchase
the Hannaford food products and
send in your points. We won the
local award ($666.66) and the
county award ($1000.00).
Important
Budget Information
Your
vote is your voice! House
Value: $316,000 – Annual
increase $22.00
From Lisa Levite: In a
prior Friday newsletter I
reported that our School Board
recently passed our proposed
school budget for the 2008-2009
school year, and that it
represented a 4.1% increase over
the current year school budget.
Since that newsletter, the City
of South Burlington has mailed
to each home in the city a
booklet titled “2008-2009
Proposed City & School District
Program Budgets”. While
this booklet is chock-full of
city and school budget details,
I would like to call to your
attention to one important fact,
which is located on the inside
cover of the booklet. The
proposed city and school budgets
that will be voted on at the
South Burlington Town Meeting
Day on May 20th
represent a property tax
increase of $7 per $100.00 of
assessed value. This means
that the average home in South
Burlington ($316,000) would see
a $22 increase in their property
taxes if both city and school
budgets were to pass as
currently proposed. I
think you can agree with me that
this increase is prudent given
the economic conditions we are
currently facing. Please
remember to vote on the South
Burlington Town Meeting Day on
May 20th.
Absentee ballots are available
by calling the City Clerk’s
office at 846-4105.
Mix it up day at lunch is
scheduled for next
Thursday, May 8th.
As a reminder, this is a day we
mix up lunch tables and
encourage new conversations and
connections. It proved
worthwhile at our pilot effort
in March. PLEASE REMEMBER
NO PEANUT/NUT PRODUCTS should be
in lunches on Thursday.
Much thanks.
Being offered by our Guidance
Counselors: Helping Our
Daughters Navigate the
Challenges of Female
Friendships. Back by
popular demand, elementary
counselors in the district will
lead a discussion group for
parents. We will begin
with a review of the current
research on female relationships
made famous in the books,
Queen Bees and Wannabess and
Odd Girl Out. It
looks at the way our own
experiences help or hinder us in
talking with our daughters about
their friendship struggles.
We’ll also come away with some
do’s and don’ts from the pros on
how to help our daughters be
more assertive and comfortable
in tough situations. This
discussion will happen Monday,
May 19th, at Rick
Marcotte Central School from
6:30-8:00 pm for all parents of
third through fifth graders.
